Steve Wozniak (not the one who co-founded Apple Computer) is aiming to catch 2000 species of fish on rod and line, and he’s now up to nearly 1300. That may sound like a dull and obsessive quest, but Steve keeps it entertaining by documenting his worldwide travels with stories and pictures like the one shown here. He started off by aiming to catch 1000 species, but having got there, decided to continue. Along the way, he has set dozens of world records. He’s just won the IGFA men’s saltwater title for the second time by adding another 29 to his list, though he admits himself that these are mostly for species that nobody else would bother with. You may not be impressed with a 3lb hornet tilapia, a Californian split-tail or a prickly sculpin, but to Steve, these are exciting captures edging him ever so slowly towards that 2000 total. Mind you, his original target was 1000 species and he decided that when he got there, he might as well try for 2000, so it’s probable that he won’t stop there. His blog is highly entertaining (I think there are plans to turn it into a book) but his regular missives will brighten your day. You can link to it here.
